Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Friday 04.02.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Naturally released avalanches can occur.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 3. February 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 3. February 2022

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -19 °C to -7 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 4. February 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Gale from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -14 °C to -3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
